Beer Canada crafts new award for next generations brewers
OTTAWA, ONTARIO – January 15, 2016 – A new award has been established at Kwantlen Polytechnic University for students in the Brewing and Brewery Operations Diploma program.
The $1,000 award will go to the top performing student entering their final year. This scholarship demonstrates our goal to raise awareness among future brewing leaders of the support available to them. “Beer Canada’s strategy is to unify the brewing community,” said Luke Harford, President. “We are thrilled to announce that we now support three separate student awards at each postsecondary education brewing program available in Canada.” Beer Canada also supports student awards for brewing programs at Olds College and Niagara College.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University has a state‐of‐the‐art teaching brewery, KPU Brewing, at the Langley campus in British Columbia. The Brewing and Brewery Operations Diploma program began in 2014 and is the only diploma of its kind in the province. “Our students have great passion for beer and it is wonderful to have their efforts recognized by our national industry association.” said Alek Egi, Program Coordinator and Brewing Instructor. KPU Brewing joined Beer Canada in 2015.
Beer Canada is a national trade association that advocates on behalf of over 30 members to ensure Canadian brewers are able to operate in a healthy regulatory environment and that beer remains a celebrated part of Canada’s culture. Membership is open to all brewers with a federal excise licence.
